Global Economic Freedom Index 2020
India has been ranked 105th position “Global Economic Freedom Index 2020 Annual Report” by Canada’s Fraser Institute, which has been released in India in conjunction with Center for Civil Society, New Delhi-based think tank. This is the 24th edition of Economic Freedom of the World. The Rankings were based on 2018 data and many new restrictions on international trade, tightening of the credit market due to Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) and COVID-19’s impact on debt and deficits did not reflect in India’s score. The Report has been divided into 4 Quartiles based on the rankings.

Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) ranking of states:
4th edition of Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) ranking of states announced recently by the Department of Industrial Promotion and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Ranking of States is based on the implementation of Business Reform Action Plan started in the year 2015. One “major change” in the current rankings is the government’s decision to link the state’s performance “exclusively” to user feedback. The five ten states under State Reform Action Plan 2019 are: Andhra Pradesh Uttar Pradesh Telangana Madhya Pradesh Jharkhand What is BRAP? The Business Reform Action Plan 2018-19 includes 180 reform points covering 12 business regulatory areas such as Access to Information, Single Window System, Labour, Environment, etc.
EASE Banking Reforms Index:
EASE (Enhanced Access and Service Excellence) 2.0 Banking Reforms Index on performance of Public Sector Banks (PSB) from March 2018-2020 was released and best performing banks on EASE were felicitated. Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs also inaugurated Doorstep Banking Services by PSBs on the occasion. In February, 2020, EASE 3.0 (2020-21) for smart, tech-enabled banking was also unveiled. • A common reform agenda for PSBs, EASE Agenda is aimed at institutionalizing clean and smart banking. It was launched in January 2018. PSBs have shown a healthy trajectory in their performance over four quarters since the launch of EASE 2.0 Reforms Agenda. • Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, and erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce were felicitated for being the top three in the ‘Top Performing Banks’ category according to the EASE 2.0 Index Results. • Bank of Maharashtra, Central Bank of India and erstwhile Corporation Bank were awarded in the ‘Top Improvers’ category basis EASE 2.0 Index.
Global Innovation Index 2020 released
Global Innovation Index (GII) 2020 was recently released. Released by: World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). India’s rank: 48th India has climbed 4 spots. With this, India ranked in the top 50 countries for the first time in the Global Innovation Index. World’s most-innovative economies: (1) Switzerland, (2) Sweden, (3) USA, (4) UK and (5) Netherlands. India ranks in the top 15 in indicators such as ICT services exports, government online services, graduates in science and engineering and R&D-intensive global companies. India is the lower middle-income economy with the highest innovation due to universities like IIT Delhi and Bombay, IIS Bengaluru and other top scientific publications. Do you know? India was at the 52nd position in 2019 and was ranked 81st in the year 2015. The WIPO had also accepted India as one of the leading innovation achievers of 2019 in the central and southern Asian region. The 2020 edition of the GII presents the annual innovation ranking of 131 economies. Its 80 indicators explore a broad vision of innovation, including political environment, education, infrastructure and business sophistication. The theme of GII, 2020 – Who Will Finance Innovation?
