Jnanpith Awards

Jnanpith Awards are India’s highest literary honour, which is bestowed on the writers for their outstanding contribution in Literature.

  • Assamese poet Nilmani Phookan Jr has won the 56th Jnanpith Award.
  • Konkani novelist Damodar Mauzo has won the 57th Jnanpith Award.

India’s highest literary award, the annual Jnanpith is bestowed on writers for “their outstanding contribution towards literature”.

NITI Aayog Health Index

The report has been prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with technical assistance from the World Bank.

  • Uttar Pradesh has once again figured at the bottom of 19 large states on the fourth NITI Aayog health index for 2019-20.
  • Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana are the top three, which means for four times in a row Kerala has emerged the best in overall health performance.
  • Bihar and Madhya Pradesh were the second- and third-worst performers, respectively.
  • Among Union Territories, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir have been ranked among bottom UTs with respect to overall performance. However, they emerged as leading performer with respect to incremental performance.
  • Telangana secured the third place in terms of overall performance as well as incremental performance.
  • Rajasthan was the worst performer, in terms of overall performance and incremental performance.
  • Among smaller states, Mizoram & Tripura registered strong overall performance. They also showed improvements in incremental performance.
  • In smaller states category, Mizoram became the best performer in overall performance and incremental performance.

James Webb Space Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope (Webb) is the next great space science observatory following Hubble, designed to answer outstanding questions about the Universe and to make breakthrough discoveries in all fields of astronomy. Webb will see farther into our origins: from the formation of stars and planets, to the birth of the first galaxies in the early Universe. Webb is an international partnership between NASA, ESA and CSA. The telescope will launch on an Ariane 5 from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana.
