Constitution Day

Constitution Day is a matter of national pride for all the Indians. Formerly known as the Law Day, it has now come to be recognised as Constitution day of India. On this day, our indian constitution was adopted and drafted. It came into effect much later though. As citizens of India, we all must be aware of the Constitution Day significance. To understand the importance of this day, we must also be aware of the Constitution Day history.  Though the day is not celebrated as a public holiday, Indians must know that Constitution Day is celebrated on which date.

The present Indian government declared 26th November as Constitution Day on 19 November 2015. this initiative was undertaken by the  Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi who made this official declaration on 11th October 2015. On that day he was laying the foundation stone of B.R Ambedkar's Statue of Equality memorial in Mumbai. It was also the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar. Hence, Indian prime Minister declared the day to be Constitution Day to honour his immense contribution in shaping Indian Constitution. From then onwards, Constitution Day is celebrated on 26th November.

B.R Ambedkar was the one who drafted Indian Constitution and the year 2015 was the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar. To understand the significance of the day, it is essential to be aware of Constitution Day history. On this day, attempts are made to generate general awareness on Indian Constitution and spread his nationalist ideas. Constitution day is celebrated on 26th November every year by many schools where the students are made to read the Preamble to Indian Constitution. As Indians, we must be aware of our indian Constitution and this day attempts to generate that awareness in us.
